I believe electric cars are the future for transport, and they are so impressive to drive. Forget hydrogen – that’ll never catch on. Some people get hung up over charging speeds. All I know is that if I’m on a long journey, I can plan my day accordingly and actually enjoy the journey. Rather than waiting until my bladder is fit to burst or my petrol tank is close to empty and then stopping at some awful service station in the middle of nowhere, I know where I’m going to stop, what facilities are there etc. It’s also good for my body to stop every 2 hours or so. First stop for a pee and the car is ready to go before I get back. Second stop for lunch, and car is pretty much fully charged. Third stop for a pee or to reach my destination where I can charge overnight at the hotel. All really quite simple if you plan appropriately.

Yes, I am a Tesla driver. I was always a bit of a BMW fan-boy, so ordered an i4, but when they told me it was going to take a year to arrive, I cancelled and ordered a Tesla online with delivery in 2 weeks, and haven’t looked back.
As a software person, I really appreciate the quality of the software in this car, and it made me realise how often I’d changed cars in the past because the interior was either outdated or the software was annoying.
I did find a bug in the Tesla system, however, that worked in my favour. I managed to get 25,000km of free charging over a period of 3 years, so have been doing a few long road trips as a result!
Katie with her new Smart #1 Pulse. She tells me I have to call it the Smart One because no one says ‘hashtag’. Before this, she owned a Black Nissan Ariya. It was nice but we needed a 4WD car in order to be able to get up the drive to our new mountain home, and that one was only FWD.
The Smart is a lovely ‘little’ car. Almost as fast as the Tesla, with something like 426bhp.
Katie really wanted the Smart #5 because she likes bigger cars. But it didn’t really exist when we bought the #1, and we got such a good deal on the #1 that it’ll cost a lot more money to upgrade. Having said that, the #5 Brabus looks pretty cool!
